Random Poem:

Rogue Butler
larrylark

While she took the lift upstairs
 1
to a jewel encrusted toilet
 2
and flushed her day away,
 3
he altered mechanics
 4
in her automatic alarm.
 5
A reminder to take ten
 6
from twenty boxes sent monthly
 7
as arranged
 8
by an exclusive, unlisted
 9
pharmacist.
 10

Over years
 11
he replaced pieces of furnishing
 12
with those of similar burnish
 13
but not quite.
 14
While she slept,
 15
rooms redecorated,
 16
inch by inch,
 17
in subtly different shades.
 18
Grandfather’s grim portrait,
 19
he unequivocally rearranged.
 20

Clocks altered,
 21
breakfast sent as supper,
 22
high tea taken during dreams
 23
of lunch
 24
when he would whisper in her ear,
 25
“We must not seek to change routine
 26
for it is what we require -
 27
Suspended animation
 28
set among reassuring scenery-
 29
that is why I was hired.”
