Random Poem:

Unnatural Selection

Through many flat and featureless years
I've wondered
why you were marked for darkness
and I was left to dwell
alone in light,
pale and sallow as it is.
In fevered, tossing dreams
you spoke of sacrifice,
trading your soul to the beast in place of another:
Was it shame that made me dream it so,
or underlying truth?
Against the roughened grain of natural order
you took destiny
into your small, childish hands
and were gone;
my hands sought to hold you to my heart
but came away empty of anything but splinters.
