Random Poem:

The Death of a Friend

I paused,
looking down on
silent mortality.
As all who knew him would say:
He was always so strong, so witty,
and so full of life.
This place on which I looked
was empty of it.
Yes, that is his nose and his chin;
And, yes, even his hands callused
with his hard work.
But this is not the man I knew.
I reached down to touch his hand.
His skin didn’t give under the pressure.
Instead the whole arm shifted ever so slightly,
in a way that seemed to me
acutely unnatural.
My nature recoiled
demanding me to withdraw my hand.
My will prevailed and
as I held his hand
I said good-bye.
