Random Poem:

Coffee, resignation, murder:

The newspaper ink blurry
on my hands, a trace
transferred to my eyelid.
I look at my palms and think:
pink, like silly putty,
that impossible truth stretcher?
But rather than reaching
further, I keep my palms facing up
tightly in my lap. To drop
a coin an alms-giver must be near,
must hear my close breath whisper
what I’m seeing, or simply rattle.
That subtle waiter smoking a cigarette,
that small-time entrepreneur from Queens,
the pregnant Dominican cashier at the farmer’s market,
some dust of my un-bonded soul
will be wiped into the recess
of a smile-crease on their cheek,
passed on like a greasy shining
nickel, soul to soul.
