Random Poem:

Anticipated Retrospect on "Off the Wagon"

I like to imagine
we are sitting in that same
coffee shop.
booth number thirteen.
like two civilized adults
sipping our coffee
yours black
mine with one sugar
one cream.
and we are conversing
with the
indisguisable air
of two people
who were once in love
with eachother
but we are a few
"somedays" older
and wiser
than the kids I once wrote of
and now we just bear
a few faint scars
and laugh in retrospect
at how much it hurt
at the time
as you wipe the coffee
ring off the table
so as to not stain
the cover of my latest
book of rhyme
you slide you finger
between the copyright
and title pages
to hold your place
as if it would be hard to find
then you smile
just barely and blush
just slightly which is
the only way I can
read your mind
"Did you ever write
a poem about me?"
"Just one, but it was on
the top ten list
for six months straight."
before you can
ask if I'd let you
someday read it
I tell you
"Sorry. You're a few
somedays late."
