Eroticism  unknown  27 Mar 08 1:27PM Thread Closed

Recently in one of my classes a professor proposed the idea that we look at art and performance differently by that meaning we see art by his definitions. One of the points he emphasizes the most is eroticism. Now there are 7 steps in eroticism. I would like everyone to look at a poem, a play, a performance and see how it relates to eroticism. Mention it on here. The reason I ask this is because I'm taking a new approach to looking at Poetry on PC. And I'd really get a hang on this whole ordeal by having others thoughts influence mine.

Eroticism:
1. Something that stops you in your tracks- Static art vs. Kinetic Art
2. You feel drawn to it.
3. You sense its power, it's energy.
4. It disorients you(overload)
5. You make contact , it responds
6. You experience extended intercourse.
7. You are changed irrevocably.

Some things to keep in mind.
Static Art arrests you while kinetic art moves you.

An example of manipulation of kinetic art: The movie 300

HASTY GENERALIZATION. AND NEVER MENTION SOMETHING SO SLEDGEHAMMER WITHOUT LISTING THEM. DIDEROT LISTED SEVEN STAGES OF MANKIND'S DEVELOPMENT THAT PROBABLY COME CLOSE TO YOUR LIST.

FIRST OFF, I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THIS OVERWHELMINGLY BLANKETING STATEMENT. YOU ARE MAKING A VERY LITERAL INTERPRETATION OF KINETIC ART, AND THE UNWEILDY STATEMENT THAT 'STATIC ART ARRESTS', SHOULD MAYBE BE AN ESSAY ON ITS OWN IF YOU REALLY MEANT IT. NOW, LET'S GO ELSWHERE...

Umm, was sex mentioned?

Isn't it about a process of communication whereby the the reader/viewer is physically aroused, or just aroused...gets the juices gong right?
Isn't that enough...

Do these steps only apply to eroticism? I feel like they apply ot anything that really catches your eye...that you take time to pay attention to. Does it mean I have an erotic interest if I follow all of these steps? (heh, probably)....
