Anyone Armenian on PC?  Isabelle5  28 May 08 2:02PM Thread Closed

I'm reading a very good, though stark, book called A Knock on the Door.  It's about the 1915 Armenian genocide in Turkey.  What's chilling is Hitler's comment when the Allied countries voiced their concern about his 'final solution' of the Jewish problem.  He said something to the effect of "No one bothered about the Armenians," as if no one would say a thing about another million or more people being slaughtered.  It's a sad but real fact that not all reading is light, isn't it?

Will we learn from history?  Africa isn't showing that we do.  I was walking Monday night, watched a husband and wife trying to find 2 of their lost dogs.  (We have a leash law but some people don't pay attention to it in the Wetlands.)  The woman had to go under a fence and the guard got out of his truck, yelling, "Hey, Bitch, next time go around!"  I was shocked by his behavior.  I was even more shocked and disappointed when the woman said to me, "Well, it's his race, they're all that way."  He was Filipino and she decided an entire race was a certain way.  My son is half Filipino, he is nothing like that but if this woman saw him, she would expect certain behaviors.  I'm still shocked that a Security Guard would call a stranger a bitch.  I used to wave at this guy every night when I passed him sitting in his truck.  I don't feel like doing that anymore.

Does anyone understand hate and bigotry?  Is it genetic or learned?  I'm leaning toward learned, as no children I've raised or watched growing up ever hate until they are told to do so.

I remember a couple of things growing up:  I can recall bringing home my first (record) album (Natalie Cole's "I Love You So,") and my mother asking me, "Why are you buyin' nigger music?"  I also recall having begun studying Spanish as a second language when I was 13 and wanting to practice with Spanish people (and I would.)  My mother would declare "Stop talkin' like a Spic!  I don't want people thinkin' you're one of 'em!"  Years later, she would marry a Cuban man (Go figure.)  My aunt is African American and my father used to say things like, "I don't want you goin' over there and talkin' to that nigger."  So...here I am years later actively participating in Diversity inititatives with my current employer, speaking Spanish as a second language and still loving my R&B, Funk and Soul music.  I always knew that what I heard growing up was wrong and I always knew that I would never be like either of my parents.  Too ignorant for my tastes, sadly.

Sorry it offended you, spawn of the Unknowns.

It didn't offend me. YOU do. You are the most ignorant old person I have ever read.

-- in our invertendo world everything is rules of operation and regulatory policing as the Head is the figure of Reason where the Heart is deferred until it becomes a stone covered in the dust of good intentions -- the Heart is made first in the growing embryonic being and sympathetically beat by the Mothers Heart -- so we fly with two wings, practical and spiritual, using our heads to figure out things but following the Heart as the beat is always in sympathy to the way we are growing; I've the Heart of a Poet and the Head of an Scientist and they never agree you see as the Head is in doubt I follow the Heart and it works out - we read Poetry (and write) to heal the wounds that reason makes - Novalis

ergo it is a learnt discrimination -- at the Heart level there is no differentiation of Race or even Sex -- that is a discrimination of Mind and highly over rated -- Truth is organic (Heart based) and shifts and changes according to the Zeitgeist of the times. The traveller of Truth is dancing beautifully on this shifting ground.

An alive and juicy Heart leads to an alive and creative Mind -- Love has no opposite but the opposite of hate is discriminating wisdom --

-- at the Heart level there is no differentiation of Race or even Sex -- that is a discrimination of Mind and highly over rated.

I offend you?  Thanks for handing me that power, how fun to be able to offend you with nothing but a simple thread!

Bless you, hiding behind Unknown so you can make fun of someone you don't even know.

Is is just me or does anyone else recognize the bigotry of someone saying "Yo're the most ignorant OLD person...blah blah blah  There, but for the grace of God, go
all of us who respect ourselves and each other.

Starr, I had the opposite.  My parents pointed out bigotry and told us why we had to fight it.  Crosses burned on our lawn for being Catholic in a Protestant community, for instance.  I feel incredibly sorrowful when bigotry shows it's head anywhere.  I don't tolerate it in anyone close to me.

So you come on closer, Starry Man!

I don't tolerate it either.  Besides, how can one help the way they're born?  You can't choose what color your skin is, your ethnicity, etc...It would take an asshole to think otherwise.  Section 4 where are YOU?????  Help me out!
