how long have you been writing poetry for?

I think it's a Briticism DL - 'tavern' has a sort of olde feel about it here.
Years - not quite as long as Christopher Marlowe though.

because it's kind of a beginners school, for people just learning how to find their own inner voice -- moving out of the parents sound-stream and hanging around new ways of saying things. that's a kid's place, and kid's need to do or die -- drink themselves out of planet mom. i'm no good there, though i'll show you how to break your conversations apart and show you where the elementary concepts overlap, and how you can re-shape talky-talk into patterns of your own invention. that'd be too much for you at first, cause right now it's all about being you, and you can be anything anywhere, without being a poet -- you can be puking drunk or ashamed you couldn't cum or sneaky thief, stealing magazines from the porn store -- you can be spiderman on a ledge, climbing alone up mount analog, or you can learn how to transcribe the scratchings behind the wall. one thing though, is, if you can't think these days, to maybe wonder if you're using too much dope. i'd tell you to give up all that shit and get lost in creativity, and maybe you'd think that was boring too.

Joey, you are really disrespectful to the poets here sometimes. We are not all pap sucking babies at poetry, there is a lot to learn for ALL of us, you included. No one here has the perfect pen or the perfect poem. Poetry is subjective so to say all is pointless, don't you think?
Poets write poetry, that's what most of us are here for - write, read, be read, point out what works and what doesn't.
I'd make a terrible President but a good vice Pres, as long as I don't have to do paperwork or fire anyone. I'm very good at applauding effort so if you need a cheerleader who is also good at kicking fanny kicks when needed, I'll send my resume! haha

i'm never disrespectful to the poets here, and i learn from everyone here, which is way more than most of the people here can do, and i think you ought to do a long and thorough study and meditation on the concept "subjective". it's simply not a poet's word -- it's a tool in a tool set for a very limited dialog. "psychology" isn't a poet's dialog -- we invent emotions and define feelings.

Maybe you don't realize it but sometimes it seems that no one lives up to what yu consider poetry. Even your giving of 10's for every poem seem to smack of arrogance, like you're saying, "Here's a bone, I know it's the best you can do."
It FEELS disrespectful. Maybe you don't mean it that way but I'll say again that not everyone here is just finding their voice. There are some very good, seasoned writers who are helpful to the rest of us. Cadacus, Mikkirat to name two. Some young poets are already very good - check out Rixes or Ducktape.
Just a thought, Mike. I know that I sometimes come across differently on the flat page than I do in person so I thought perhaps you are not aware.

Perhaps you need to do a more thorough study of the word. It means that we all see things our own way, not your way!
As for inventing feelings, that's not what I feel we do. It's more that we take the universal feelings, spin them into something rich and uniquely defined.
Otherwise, what is a poem?

yes, reinvention, although maybe not of "feelings" more of ourselves. Shadows made 3D even, such that in poem time becomes an emotion, all vocalisation, all thought outwardly expressed is returned as a little universe...our reinvention. the reienvention of God you might say.
whereas "subjectivity" only matters to the outsider, we the poet, sow the pants which ARE the pants...first and only- as it concerns our legs, our bodies, our universe...unique to all perceived perception.
yes?

A university for poets! By golly.
Where could one find a more mundane assembly of mediocrity as in markfelican’s proposed list of tutors?
One would be hard pushed to find a bigger flock of cuckoo’s on any poetry site.
Who could in reality could learn anything from those raucous songbirds?
One only has to read their ludicrous comments posts to various works to see how little they understand about the noble art of poetry.
As for markfelican, instead of enquiring about universities, he would be better joining an infant class at a primary school for talent less no hopers.
One has to look no further than the recent comments forwarded by the sites resident idiot Mongol , and his cohort for attention Isabelle5 and others of similar standing on the recent high rated poem “ I need you in my pocket” to understand the ludicrous situation of a writer being misguided as to the worth of their work.
Who in their right mind would take the word of Mongol on merit, when his own poetry is absolute rubbish.
Not one single commenter noted the outstanding flaw in the much-praised work; that it was not the moth who was abbreviated on opium and honey, but in fact the writer.
So much for critical reviews.
