Love is a lot of hormones kicking and screaming for a fair while, then tolerance, empathy and understanding, coupled with a healthy amount of respect and stoicism.
Hmm, I just found a small orange bead on my head.

love is the complete unselfishness. Therefore, it's the divine human paradox; because we are inherently selfish beings who seek to attain a state of love while simultaneously obtain another's love, all the while being betrayed by our baser nature. Essentially, your instinct fights against your cognisance.
