There lies the rub: every new human has to learn or re-learn, the hard ways, there is no easy way, all that every old and gone human needed decades to acquire.
The only downside of mortality is that it means each of us must start from scratch.
And then, just when we find ourselves in full harmony with life, people and circumstance,
then comes permanent erasure.
One of the beauties of oriental philosophies, is the teaching of the young to go with the flow, to not worry. That the 17 year old is anxious, eager, insecure, in the West, particularly, and in the modern East, is a sorry shame. Olden monks lived quiet, long, happy lives, from youth to death, without complaint or indigestion.
Why can't we be more like them? In general, I mean?
It will all work out if we just refuse to be unhappy or anxious over love, job, family failures, etc.

so, the famous sarod player had become very accomplished and toured the land playing his greatest hits. one day, while walking in a beautiful woods to clear his thoughts, he came upon a a group of weeping women seated beside a small brook. a powerful presence appeared, and, though not intimidating, seemed to compel him to speak truthfully and as a child. "who are these women? why are they weeping?" the presence, who was in fact the devine force Saraswati, replied, "these are all the notes and all their holding raags you have compelled, have played, before you'd let yourself understand them. the old man, understanding, took up his sarod and replayed his greatest hits and they became real music.

CervusWright, re. for joey. I read your wise tale, hope you don't mind. It's very lovely.
Mor, re. expectations. Things can reasonably be expected to improve if you have nothing left to lose.
netskyIam, re. coppers. I read your wise tale, hope you don't mind. It's very lovely. There is something of the free spirit about your commentary, always fun to read.
