”The age of fire. When God made men, the same as and yet different from the other animals, he did not give man fire. Because of fire, God lives forever. Tao picked up that burning fuel and ran away at full speed. However, the Protector of Ovens knew of that in advance, and put a curse in the fire. Tao, bringing the fire back home, burned just like God, and his seven sons died. This was the first human death. God descended before Tao, and prophesied. `Man, you have been cursed. All of your children will struggle and live with sorrow. And their misfortunes will spread until the world's end, until everyone has been killed.'"

”you will use fire. We tried that, too. Too much fire, and nothing will live. The fire will turn the forest to ash in one day. For hundreds of years, the forest was nurtured by water and wind. We like the way of water and wind. Kimi-sama will be sad when she sees that forest.”

”But you drink well-water, don’t you? What do you think purifies that water? The humans polluted both the oceans and the rivers. The Wasteland trees are purifying them. You say you’ll burn those trees? Somehow, you must not excavate the God Soldier!”

”The person wearing a robe of blue, shall stand in a golden field. The ground and its bonds will be lost, will end. At last they will lead everyone to an Earth of green purity”

”That way is best. Their anger is the anger of the Earth. For prolonging the life of a thing like that...”


for once i was someone else

a cup stands at my feet

with the remnants of overly milky chai tea

as i struggle desperately

wrinkled and i am old

                   i grow weary

               so i retreat down the mountainside.

space too was once God’s dominion;

many people came to try and burn down the Wasteland

but every time a crowd of protectors came

trampling the earth and bringing great sorrow

Interesting, Inuki. Interesting, but I'm not sure how successful it is. I don't agree with LarryLark that it's too silly or too long but I do wonder if the fragmented, scattered quality is really helping it. It makes me think "how does the form reflect the content in this" and I'm going to have to think further about that.

I would guess that ll83-84 are the key to the whole thing and you'll probably get peeved at people not understanding this and claiming that you stated it right there... but if it can be summated so simply, why do the rest?

The stanza 56-65 doesn't seem to make much sense to me. I'm assuming that you're referring to Eliot's Wasteland, as you do at every conceivable point ;), but the Wasteland is a symbol of destruction and chaos (or at  least its aftermath) itself... why do you claim that people are trying to destroy barren land? If they're doing, they're really trying to revitalize dead land, aren't they?

Overall, the theme of this seems to be a statement/reprimand to poets/poetry. I'm exactly sure what, but I'm getting the impression of a reprimand for lack of creativity and for condemnation of experimentalism. Both of which I feel are rather unfair.  You well know that I hate reflexive poetry, which the header makes it clear this is, but I'm trying to ignore that and actually understand it.  And what it seems to be, to me, is a tongue-lashing for people to stop condemning the avant-garde and to stop fiddling around with traditional and/or stale styles.

But of course, this is may just be a misinterpretation.

1-6 are beautiful, as are 16-38.

I love the subject matter(s). Where I am a tad lost is in connection between the two. Is the second the reason for the first? Is poetry your shield against the wasteland? Or is it the reason for it? I think you risk credibility by suggesting that the universe, as vast as it is, could possibly be defiled by man.

39 stands on it's own. No need to baby the reader with 41.

86 Do you mean the spanish dance? I'm too dense for the connection. If it's a dance you're suggesting, perhaps a freer one, less strictured than the waltz would be appropriate?

You are very complicated. This is too.
