as i shaved i saw
 1
reflected a guy crossing the street below
 2
when he passed the middle of the road
 3
i saw his figure double
 4
sneezing twice at the same
 5
instances of both i heard
 6
nancy in the next room sneeze
 7

i was a breath
 8
away from missing
 9
the guy behind me out on 2nd
 10
the sound of my pretty flatmates
 11
sneezes in the next room

 14
recall the event
 15
until the afternoon

one of those little coincidences in life eh? one of those things that could go unnoticed, a moment that might pass you by, a speck that without serendipity might be invisible. good that you are still witnessing, even if it takes awhile. (in your case only a few hours, which ain't so bad). nice, had to read it quite a few times though.

ps. you have pretty flatmates?

Sometimes when I blow my nose too hard, blood comes out. Other times, I wonder if I can relaly sneeze my head off. A useless anecdote, but imagine if someone were around to see me blow my head off!

also, i like when you write like this. it's more in tune with the way you talk...or tell a story. your natural tendency towards precision in speach automatically produces dual meaning and metaphor, something that i know appeals to you in language. when you speak plain, you are misty (foggy) by default. ty.

like your photos, and your book, you poetry has an almost zen quality to it. reading your poetry is like zazen. this poem has that quality, at least to me. the last stanza is quite wonderful, and if i have never said this before, you are among my favorite poets ever.
