we met for the first time today
fdostoev

February sixth, two thousand and six
 1
eleven forty five in the morning
 2
on the fourth floor
 3
of a medical clinic in Des Moines, IA
 4
the nurse put salve on the end of a plastic wand
 5
held it against your mother's stomach
 6
woosha woosha woosha woosha woosha woosha woosha woosha woosha
 7
one hundred and sixty beats per minute you spoke through the tiny receiver
 8

I've forty five marks in the small notebook I carry in my back pocket
 9
each one represents a minor victory for me,
 10
a day without alcohol
 11

My goal is to fill it up,
 12
have no need for it when you're here

the title and the poem are so sweet.  i love the mood of preparing for your kid.  it reminds me a lot of the song "cleo" by built to spill.
