a fundamental difference found

A fundamental difference found.
In conflict, mates undone confound.
One may destroy the property
and perhaps a life itself
the difference being toward which one
the injured one applies.

is this about an insurance dispute?
I don't know about this, the last two lines really confuse. It seems simple enough yet somehow makes me feel stupid.

It lacks substance anyway.
