| Grim Defiance
|
Hawksfire
| Every day I hear people | 1 |
claiming they've lost control. | 2 |
that they've lost hold on reality, | 3 |
and I wonder-- | 4 |
| |
did they ever really have it? | 5 |
| |
-I've- seen angels dance | 6 |
on waves of logic. | 7 |
-I've- held the hands of devils, | 8 |
as they laid waste to the impure. | 9 |
-I've- hunted with wolves, | 10 |
for unspeakable prey. | 11 |
and I don't claim to grasp reality. | 12 |
| |
The physical gives way | 13 |
when one seeks control. | 14 |
| |
Owning your life means | 15 |
defining your world. | 16 |
| |
I have forsaken, and live not in, | 17 |
the world of my birth. | 18 |
| |
but that which I helped create. | 19 |
| |
Where magic exists | 20 |
as a facet of fact, | 21 |
and not some cold mythology. | 22 |
| |
Where men are gods by right, | 23 |
and transcend enlightenment | 24 |
to become their own truth in technology. | 25 |
| |
don't you dare tell me what's real-- | 26 |
Mankind Cannot Handle Very Much Reality, | 27 |
so let me cling to my laughable, obscure theology | 28 |
| The second to last line is a reference to TS Eliot. This was again written through Lumie, in response to his parents. | 24 Jul 02 |

what's going on in 6, 8, and 11 with the hyphens? i think they detract from the poem. other than that, this was great to read, especially lines 17-19. so much interesting thought! — HandsomeHerb
