you're guilty (on reason)

don't know what i ever did
in a past life to warrant
beating myself up so bad in this one
maybe i was a general
a heroic slaughter
was undertaken at my command
could be that i did some personal harm
to another; that, in this life,
is a most abhorrent thought
quite possibly i harbour these
(burdens and infinity of other regrets)
on behalf of somebody else
