Against the dearth of nil
Qayyum

I cannot anymore defend myself
 1
when what surrounds me is nil
 2
for nothing haunts me with dread
 3
more than possessing nil.
 4

so I braced
 5

and put
 6
one step forward
 7
slowly -
 8

my eyes had no H.U.D.
 9

I know nothing -
 10
I bring no tools
 11
to measure it
 12
or to get to know it
 13
by readings the tools give.
 14

So, I say
 15
'come what may'
 16
and
 17
step by step
 18
covering square feet
 19
after square feet,
 20

with my hands
 21
merry-go-round
 22
facing the real deal
 23
inching in
 24
inch by inch,
 25

hoping that
 26
eventually
 27
what is left
 28
is either zero
 29
or whatever else
 30
but not nil.
