Burial Ground

Assumed futures loom above skeletal scaffold,
funnelled up from cold earth.
Bolted poles stretch to vanishing points.
Horizon forensically measured, smeared with steel,
rises from dug over ground.
Men, helmeted, bullish, boastful.
One clutches skull, curses inconvenience.
Neanderthal, or decade ago scene of murder?
Uncertain, it's hurled into skip,
lip service paid to both history and justice.
Missing link in towering blocks
that will pass as new age living.
Like all before, equally unforgiving.
