About A Girl
unknown

she was blooming
 1
into a rose vine
 2
that had wrapped itself
 3
into the coils
 4
of a guard--a chain-link fence,
 5
that had been put up
 6
to keep the dogs
 7
and the strays
 8
from getting in.
 9
vines grow
 10
intimately looking
 11
for structure,
 12
and she was tired
 13
of climbing her roses
 14
on the window
 15
where the wind blew
 16
and stripped her
 17
of petals.
 18
tired of growing
 19
on the front door
 20
where the shade
 21
and the people
 22
come
 23
and go,
 24
trampling her flowers
 25
underneath their motions,
 26
where the
 27
sunlight wavers
 28
and the colors bruise
 29
her hue in shadow.
 30
she would grow
 31
into something
 32
that wouldn't
 33
wither her redness
 34
or allow her flowers
 35
to be taken
 36
by anything
 37
than the sun
 38
and the clouds,
 39
and the silent
 40
puddles
 41
of misguided rain.
