Give me the colored woman
with dark circles under eyes
mud on her feet
clothes damp with sweat
who wears all her possessions
throws her children at strangers
because what is unknown
must be better
than what is

Wow, this is one of the best poems that I read on this site!  It is an explanation why some people choose to be homeless.  The alternative may be too painful or challenging for them.  This poem will resonate with me although the woman can be of any race, ethnic or creed.  I have seen homeless
women of all  races on the streets.
