Winter’s Dirge

December days draw close the nigh’
as winter storms behold
these mournful eyes and muted skies
and sparrows lone and cold.

The forest that I frequent so
once filled my heart and pensive mood
but through the mist the shadows grow
and haunt me in my solitude.

Yet still I seek the glow within
and all that rots and hides beneath
chasing light beyond the dim
is where you’ll find me, fair or grim.
